Barcelona Shopping
Barcelona offers visitors some great shopping, with unique buys available in clothing, art, souvenirs, and food. While many of Barcelona's stores are very upscale and can be expensive, the city still makes for a fun place to window shop or just wander around, or buy yourself a special something that is the perfect reminder of the city and your vacation.
One of the most enjoyable, while touristy, ways to shop in Barcelona is to wander along Las Rambles. This pedestrian boulevard is over 1 km long, and offers endless options of souvenirs and fun. Here you can get a portrait or caricature of yourself drawn, pick up a painting of your favorite part of town, look over handmade crafts and clothing, or just watch the throngs of people passing by while you sip your drink on an outdoor patio.
For a cultural food experience, wander into La Bouqueria, a huge covered market located just off of Las Rambles selling every kind of food imaginable. This is the best place to purchase some fresh fruit or baked goods for a picnic lunch, or to gawk at (or even try) the various carcasses in the meat stands.
Maremagnum is a mall complex at Port Vell, and has dozens of shops to wander through, as well as some eateries that have a fantastic view. At night Maremagnum becomes a hotspot for clubbers when its many discos open.
For more trendy clothing try Zara or Mango (Pg. de Gracia), two of Barcelona's signature stores that are now making an appearance globally. These stores are the perfect place to pick up an outfit to wear out on the town. The streets off Las Rambles also have some trendy shops. These narrow streets themselves are fun to just wander through and explore, but if you see something you like its often a good idea to buy it then and there: these maze-like streets can make it hard to find a place twice!
Flea markets can be found all over the city, often in La Ribera. These are perfect for poking around in to find bargains, but make sure to watch your wallet: markets such as these tend to be frequented by thieves. La Ribera itself is a great place to find deals in its many funky art and antique shops. For more antiques and discounts, try the Mercat Alternatiu (alternative market) in El Raval.
