Barcelona's Las Rambles

Las Ramblas, Barcelona
Barcelona's Las Rambles is long, tree-lined pedestrian street running through the city, packed with buskers, artists, actors, vendors and salespeople of every kind. This boulevard actually consists of several Rambles or Promenades strung together, which form a perfect place for a stroll about 1 km long.
Many cafes have a patio located right on the walkway, and this is one of the best places in the city to sit and enjoy a cool glass of sangria and watch the many carnival-esque sights of Las Rambles.
The first section of the street, La Rambla de les Canaletes is named for its fountain, which bears four facets and the Catalan crest. Legend has it that visitors who drink from the fountain will be so charmed by the city that they will be soon to return. Have a drink yourself, and only time will tell if the myth has some truth!
La Rambla dels Estudis is next, also sometimes called La Rambla dels Ocells, or the Rambla of the Birds. This section houses the loud bird market, which sells every kind of bird imaginable, along with other types of animals. You can look through the hundreds of cages these vendors have stacked for some beautiful specimens.
Next is La Rambla de les Flors, the Rambla of the Flowers. Romantics will love waking through the vendors selling fragrant, colorful flowers.
La Rambla dels Caputxins is filled mostly with eateries, as well as Joan Miro's beautiful circular mosaic. If these expensive and touristy eateries are not for you, take a walk through La Boqueria, a huge Catalan market selling every food imaginable for great prices.
On of the best sections of Las Rambles is the last, and closest to the port: La Rambla de Santa Monica. Here is where the artists flock, and is the perfect place to buy a souvenir of Barcelona, whether it be a caricature of yourself, a pen and ink drawing of your favorite area of town.
