Sangria of Barcelona
Sangria is one of the most popular Spanish drinks. This is a delicious, cool beverage that can be enjoyed throughout Spain, and can vary region to region. It can be as simple as sweetened red wine and fruit, although recipes can also contain brandy, fruit juices and soda water. The word 'Sangria' typically means red wine punch, but 'Sangria Blanco', or Sangria made with white wine, is also popular. Both red and white varieties are chilled and served over ice.
Sangria was originally created with Rioja wine and other Spanish reds, and the Cava-producing area later adopted a white-wine version. Zurra, the Sangria of Southern Spain is a delicious treat: this drink is made with peach or nectarine.
Each restaurant in Spain will have its own Sangria recipe which can be vastly different from place to place. You can also buy boxes or bottles of Sangria in the grocery stores. While these pre-made versions of the drink are decent, the restaurant recipes are definitely the best choice.
