Torre Collserola Barcelona
Built for the 1992 Olympics, the Torre Collserola grants a sweeping panorama of the city. The design of the tower has drawn considerable comment over the years, drawing equal amounts of praise and criticism. Looming like 282-meter (980 ft) tall rocketship perched on the tallest mountain in a rocky ridge that looks over the city (an image reinforced by its slow elevators which take you to the deck) and supported by dozens of cables, the observation platform itself seems perilously perched on top of a pillar no more than 14 ft. (4 meters) wide!
The elevators will take you from the loading area actually located inside a mountain to the deck to the platform, which rises 546m (1,820 ft.) above the Mediterranean Sea. The view is nothing less than spectacular. The completely glass walls grant a full 360 degree-view of Barcelona and its smaller neighbors as well as the sea. Access to the tower is available by funicular, hiking trails and mini-buses.
